Qualification Short Courses

Our qualification short course programs have been developed to give our students the best possible chance of finding employment or advancing in their chosen careers.

Because of this ASHE offers students the opportunity to complete a number of qualifications that are required to gain employment in many different fields.

 

These consist of:

All full-time students are encouraged to complete these qualifications during their time at ASHE. Other community members who are not full-time students of ASHE can also complete these qualifications at ASHE but this does depend on us having enough enrolments to run a course. It is also possible that ASHE will support full-time students achieve further qualifications if these will assist them in fulfilling their individual learning plans.

These may include:

  • A driver’s license
  • Forklift license
  • Sports based programs
  • Austswim (swimming instructor)

Level 2 First Aid

DAY PROGRAM Samara and Kate at First Aid Training

Dates: Tuesday 20 May to Thursday 22 May 2008.

Cost: On application

Duration: Three days (18 hours)


NIGHT PROGRAM

Dates: Wednesday 23rd & 30th July, 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th August 2008

Cost: On application

Duration: Six nights (18 hours)


This course provides information and the skills required to effectively deal with First Aid emergencies and accidents that occur as part of daily life and in workplace environments.

NOTE: Level 2 updates can be completed as part of these courses.

 

Pool Lifeguard Certificate

Date: On Application Pool Lifeguard training

Cost: On Application

Duration: Three days (18 hours)

This is the minimum qualification for those wishing to work as a lifeguard at a swimming pool. Program includes CPR, oxygen resuscitation, spinal management, surveillance techniques, aquatic safety and swimming skills.

Graduates are eligible for the ASHE-Aquamoves Work Placement Program during Term 3.

 

Responsible Service Of Alcohol

RSA

Date: Friday 1st August 2008

Cost: Nil

Duration: One day (six hours)

This course is for anyone who serves and sells alcohol in Victoria and covers an introduction to the Liquor Control Reform Act 1998, alcohol and the law, problems associated with excessive
consumption, facts about alcohol and its effect on the body, strategies for responsible serving, ways to prevent customers from becoming intoxicated and refusal of service.

 

Workplace Hygiene For Food Handlers

Dates: Friday 12 & 19 September 2008 serving food

Cost: Nil

Duration: Two days (12 hours)

This course satisfies current health legislation concerning food handler training and meets the needs for food handling. Includes introduction to food contamination, personal hygiene, food hygiene, cleaning, sanitising and pest control.
