Justin Mohamed - Director, ASHE and Goulburn Valley Partnerships
Justin is a Goreng Goreng man from Bundaberg, Queensland. He moved to Shepparton, Victoria in 1988 where he has been involved with the Yorta Yorta Community in the Shepparton/Mooroopna region. Justin was the CEO of the Rumbalara Aboriginal Co-operative Ltd prior to coming to work at ASHE. The co-operative provides the local community with health, housing, youth and aged care services. Justin has been the Director of the Academy of Sport, Health and Education since March 2005. Justin is committed to growing the Academy to a national and international level and enjoys watching both the Academy’s staff and students rise to new heights.
Phillip Guthrie - ASHE Manager
Phil joined ASHE in March 2005 after having worked for ten years as a journalist with the Shepparton News including four years as Sports Editor. Phil is Vice-President of the Goulburn Valley Sports Assembly (ValleySport) and in his position with ASHE aims to design and support programs which provide ASHE students the best opportunity to live out their dreams. Married with two children, Phil is a former Victorian Country Football representative, Goulburn Valley League Premiership player with Shepparton Bears and also played football for Rumbalara Football Netball Club.
Leonie Dwyer - ASHE Program Coordinator
Leonie
Dwyer has returned to ASHE in 2009. She previously worked for 13 years
for Centrelink in their working age department. Her career roles have
included Prison Liaison, Aboriginal Liaison Officer, Youth Work
specialist, and Abstudy coordinator. Leonie is happily married with
three sons and lives in Shepparton. Leonie's current role includes
student recruitment, monitoring student outcomes and progress,
supporting ASHE teaching staff, Centrelink inquiries, referrals for
accommodation, as well as the daily tasks involved in running ASHE programs.
Tui Crumpen - Manager Goulburn Valley Partnerships
Tui plays a key role in the implementation
of the University of Melbourne’s plans for future partnerships in the Goulburn Valley and in
furthering the partnership between the University and ASHE. Her role includes promoting and representing the University at community events and help
implement and foster new programs and opportunities for partnerships in the Goulburn Valley. Tui's role includes running of the Goulburn Valley Office which ASHE operated from, as well as preparing budgets and authorisation of expenditure for both the GVP
and the ASHE.
Jason Briggs - Community Education Officer
Jason is the longest serving ASHE staff member, having joined ASHE as the first Student Support Officer in 2004. Jason has strong links to the local indigenous community and also in the Robinvale area. Jason plays a
major role in consolidating ASHE’s standing in the overall education landscape
of Greater Shepparton. Fundamental to this role includes fostering positive and
cooperative relationships with the region’s primary and secondary schools and
particularly their indigenous support staff. This includes coordination of
a range of activities and other services for these schools including the annual
ASHEletics carnival.
Corey Walker - Student Support Officer (Indigenous Youth Mobility Program
Corey joined ASHE in 2006 as the Indigenous Youth Mobility Program (IYMP)Student Support Officer. The IYMP program is a joint initiative between ASHE and the Goulburn Ovens Institute of TAFE which has been developed to provide training opportunities in Shepparton for young indigenous people from rural and remote areas of Australia. Corey's role is to assist these students in settling into life in Shepparton and ensure they have all the support they need in order to succeed.
Rebecca Presser - Careers Officer
Rebecca has been with ASHE since March 2007. Rebecca - who previously worked for CVGT Job Network - brings to ASHE a wealth of experience in matching jobs to people and providing advice about suitable career and study options. Rebecca's main role at ASHE is to support ASHE students by helping them to determine what career they would like to pursue and then work with them to work towards gaining training, further study in higher education and experience in those roles. Rebecca co-ordinates the work placement programs for ASHE and works to provide links to local businesses and organisations offering casual employment to help students earn money while they study at ASHE.
Gillian Atley - Promotions and Strategic Projects Officer

Gillian has been with ASHE and the University of Melbourne since mid-2005. Before this she worked for the Greater Shepparton City Council as their Communications Officer. Gillian has a Bachelor of Commerce from Deakin University, with a major in Management/Marketing. Gillian's role includes overseeing public relations
and promotional activities for the University's Goulburn Valley Partnerships (GVP) office and ASHE. She also assists in the development and implementation of strategies relevant to the University of Melbourne's GVP and ASHE. Gillian's most visible work related to ASHE can be seen on the ASHE website, newsletter and other publications around ASHE.
Naomi Amos - Administration Assistant
Naomi joined ASHE in August 2006 on a traineeship completing her Certificate III in Business Administration. Naomi is the first port of call for all visitors to ASHE and always has a huge smile to greet students and visitors alike. Naomi is also responsible for the fabulous displays you'll see around the ASHE office and the many photos of our students. Naomi grew up in the Shepparton Indigenous community and is a popular face for many of our students. Naomi is a keen netballer and basketball player, playing netball for the Nagambie Lakers.
Janette Bruinier - Sports and Personal Development Officer
Janette has worked in a range of fields includes as a Public Library Officer with several Goulburn Valley libraries, Office Manager at Shepparton Netball Association, Integration Aide at Wanganui Park Secondary College and voluntary netball coaching at zone, regional, association and club levels. She has served on many different sporting committees and provided administrative services for a family business. Janette's role at ASHE is to oversee the sports specialisation programs which include football, netball and golf and she plays a leading role in mentoring and supporting ASHE full-time students.
Chris Turner - Student Support Officer
Chris is one of ASHE's Student Support Officers who assist in the recruitment and ongoing support of
ASHE participants. Chris plays a major role in supporting ASHE students in the
fulfilment of their individual development plans and also develop a close
working relationship with these participants and their families.
